Apparently, nothing screams “MAGA patriotism” like threatening to deport concertgoers during the most-watched American sports event of the year.
Lewandowski, currently acting as Chief Advisor to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, told far-right pundit Benny Johnson that there is “nowhere that you can provide safe-haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you, we will apprehend you, we will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you.”
Think about that for a second. The Trump camp isn’t just talking about ramping up deportations — they’re openly fantasizing about sending ICE agents into a stadium full of families, fans, and performers during America’s biggest cultural event. This is the dystopian police state Republicans want.
And of course, Lewandowski couldn’t resist throwing in a few tired attacks about “wokeness,” bizarrely smearing Bad Bunny as someone who “seems to hate America so much.” (For the record: Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican and an American citizen. He’s an artist who has used his global platform to celebrate Latino culture, highlight social justice, and bring joy to millions. That’s what MAGA Republicans call “hating America.”)
Lewandowski also recycled MAGA’s favorite punching bag — Colin Kaepernick — saying the NFL legend wasn’t benched for kneeling against police brutality, but because he “sucked.” This is the same revisionist gaslighting MAGA has been peddling for years to erase the truth: Kaepernick sacrificed his career to shine a light on systemic racism, and history has vindicated him.
The bottom line: Trump and his minions want to turn every corner of American life — even the Super Bowl halftime show — into an ICE checkpoint. Their vision of “making America safe” is mass surveillance, mass deportations, and intimidation of immigrants, especially people of color.
But here’s the reality they can’t stand: America loves Bad Bunny. America supports immigrants. And America is tired of MAGA’s cruelty masquerading as patriotism.
When the lights go up and Bad Bunny takes the stage, millions of fans across the world will be watching him — not Trump, not Lewandowski, not ICE. And no matter how hard Republicans try, they can’t deport culture.
